About Me

Dan Simpkins is a final-year BA(Hons) Music Production student with over ten years of experience as a guitarist and bassist. His passion for music began through early guitar lessons and has since developed into a broader interest in songwriting, production, and audio engineering.

My Musical Journey

Dan's early influences came from guitar-driven artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, whose playing inspired a deeper exploration of tone, technique, and musical expression. What began as a focus on performance gradually expanded into an interest in how music is create and produced.

This progression led to studying music production at university, where he has developed both creative and technical skills across the full production process.

Influences and Style

With a foundation in classic rock and blues, Dan's influences have expanded to include a wide range of styles. Artists such as Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, and Guns 'n' Roses shaped his earlier listening, while later discoveries like Oasis, The Stone Roses and Kasabian introduced new perspectives on rhythm, texture, and production.

His work reflects this blend of influences, combining performance-led songwriting with a strong focus on tone, atmosphere, and production detail.

Professional Focus

Throughout his studies, Dan has built a strong foundation in producing, performance, mixing, and mastering. He is particulalry interested in capturing authentic performances while applying production techniques that enhance clarity, energy, and cohesion.

He is organised, adaptable, and detail-oriented, with a collaborative approach thart values clear communication and continuous improvement.

Beyond Music

Outside of music, Dan enjoys football, travelling, and restoring classic cars and motorcycles. He values the process of building and refining something over time, whether that's developing a mix or bringing a vehicle back to life, finding the same satisfaction in both technical precision and creative problem-solving.
